Top 5 LEGO Batman Sets

Gotham Never Sleeps

Having been an avid fan of Batman since watching the original tv series, I was super excited to see a wide range of Batman Lego kits becoming available. That excitement only grew as they continued to expand the range to include vehicles, mosaics and figures.

In this top 5 list, I’ll be showcasing some of my favourite Batman Kits and exploring what makes them so great! So without further ado, let’s get started:

DC Batman Batmobile Tumbler

Set number - 76240

Pieces - 2049

Admittedly, the batmobile tumbler from the christopher nolan films was always going to be my top choice from this list. Of course, it’s for good reason, just look at this beast of a ‘not a car’. Admittedly there’s a lot of the same colour pieces throughout this model, and it doesn’t stand out for its bright aesthetics. However, bright colours on a vehicle designed for a Dark Knight would just look out of place.

Out of all the display sets I have, this takes a proud position in the center with a freshly polished information plaque sitting in front. It also comes with a stand and two well known mini figure characters to battle it out in front. But the inside is just as impressive as it contains all the gadgets and gizmos needed to fight Gotham's most villainous.

If you’re a huge fan of the Batman films and have a display space sized gap on your shelf, I really recommend picking up this kit. It’s one of the most impressive build transitions I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing and it makes such a satisfying build.

Jim Lee Batman Collection

Set number - 31205

Pieces - 4167

This kit is a real stud of a set. Get it? With over 4,000 studs included in this set, it’s definitely an adult version of the Dots series I’ve talked about in a previous list. Being one for display pieces, this was quickly added to my collection and added to the wall once complete.

With a variety of colours at your fingertips, you can create three different Jim Lee designs to display in your own home. Each one fits onto the nine backplates that are provided in the set, but only one can be displayed at a time. That being said, if you can pick up a few more backplates and some borders or pick up another box of this set there’s no reason you can’t display all three at the same time.

Before you pick up this kit, it’s worth considering if you’re going to display this kit when it’s completed. For the price, if you don’t plan on showing it off, it may be worthwhile investing in one of the other Batman display pieces that are available.

Batman Construction Figure

Set number - 76259

Pieces - 275

I couldn’t resist including this kit in my list, as it’s one of the more unusual sets I’ve picked up over the years. Designed for the younger audience, Lego has brought the Batman to life in action figure form with an impressively small amount of pieces. Making a perfect display piece for a kids bookshelf.

But it’s so much more than a display piece, and deserves much more attention. Designed with moving joints throughout the model, Lego have managed to create a moving, fighting Batman action figure to rival the likes of action man in every way.

Also, coming in at a great value, this makes the perfect christmas or birthday present for the younger ones and brings the true hero of Gotham to life in true fashion. It would be great to see Lego extend the range to include other characters from the Batman franchise, and would give kids the opportunity to do battle between them.

Batman Versus Harley Quinn

Set number - 76220

Pieces - 42

Coming in as the smallest set on this list, the versus kit is a great way of showing that you don’t need a lot of pieces to make a killer set. Pitting two of the most well known characters in Gotham against each other, builders can recreate a legendary showdown between Batman and Harley Quinn.

The highlight of this kit for me was definitely the mini figures. Each comes with loads of printed details and accessories that showcase each character. Also, just look at that Batbike! Equipped with bumper wheels, the instantly recognisable logo and a batarang thrown in. What more could you want?

Batman Cowl

Set number - 76182

Pieces - 410

Although this model has since become a retired kit, it still deserves an honorable mention. With just over 400 pieces, the Lego designers have managed to recreate a legendary piece of clothing complete with all the details and a sturdy stand to display the finished model.

And ideally, that’s what this kit is; the ultimate display piece. Although I do wish that it was big enough and light enough to wear, it looks just as good on my bookshelf with the other Batman models and heaps of comic books. It also instantly catches peoples eyes, being one of the first things people see when they walk into the room, closely followed by them asking where they can get one.

Although I wish there was more interactivity with this model, it makes sense for it to be simple and stationary. The cowl in the films doesn’t have pieces that move or dance around, so it makes sense for the model to be the same. That being said, there’s no reason you couldn’t add white LED’s behind the eyes to make them glow…

So there we have it, five of the finest Batman Lego kits that Gotham has to offer. Whether you’re a hero or villain, I’m sure you’ll agree that they’re hard to resist. Admittedly, I love how so many unique nods to the franchise are crammed into these kits, whether they’re huge cars or small showdown kits. This makes it also that much more fun for avid fans of the Batman franchise to build and explore.

I also set out to cover a variety of sizes in this list. Because, as impressive as the huge sets are, they may not appeal to everyone, and may be overwhelming for younger builders. But I think you’ll agree that regardless of whether a kit has 40 pieces or 4,000; each one is charming in its own way and truly does the Hero of Gotham justice.

But as always, the real question is which one is your favourite? Do you agree with my list? Is there another champion set that you think should have been on there? If so, be sure to let us know by using the @zatugames tag on any social media.
